Chambers, Laboratory, In Vitro Fertilization

Definition : Chambers designed to provide appropriate conditions to perform in-vitro fertilization procedures. These chambers typically consist of a vibration resistant enclosure with a controlled atmosphere that provides uniform temperature and humidity and usually a controlled carbon dioxide environment; the air supply includes both high-efficiency particulate air and carbon filters. Access to the chamber is possible though hinged doors and/or bare-hand-entrances (i.e., iris ports). The chamber is large enough to hold microscopes, lasers, video cameras, and micromanipulation devices used in the procedures. In-vitro fertilization chambers are used to facilitate successful in-vitro procedures by providing an environment that is almost free of microbial and volatile organic compounds.
