Retrieval Baskets, Urological Stone

Definition : Instruments designed to trap, retrieve, and/or manipulate stones for the treatment of conditions such as nephrolithiasis and urolithiasis (i.e., presence of calculi in the kidneys or urinary tract). These instruments typically comprise a flexible sheath with a multiwire, self-expanding (typically nitinol) basket at the distal end and a handle at the proximal end to open, close, and rotate the basket. These devices are intended to be used through the working channel of an endoscope, such as a nephroscope or ureteroscope, during urological and related procedures.
