Clamps, External Occlusion, Umbilical Cord
Definition : Clamps designed for external atraumatic compression and temporary occlusion of the umbilical cord after birth but before cutting the cord. These clamps are typically handheld, manual instruments including two parts pivoted at the center with distal serrated blades or devices including a mechanism that is operated from the handle. Dedicated single-use devices including two clamps (one for the mother site and other for the child site) and a cutter are frequently used for permanent occlusion and cutting of the umbilical cord.
