Definition : Clamps designed to grasp and compress tubing (e.g., infusion line, hemodialysis) without damaging it. These clamps are available in a variety of sizes and configurations according to the tubing to be clamped and the procedure to be performed; they frequently include a mechanism (e.g., a roller) to partially or completely obstruct the line. Dedicated surgical tubing clamps are available for use in infusion and suction/wound drain lines, hemodialysis, and other procedures; in addition, general purpose tubing clamps are used with a range of tubing/tubing sets found in various patient care areas (e.g., enteral feeding), and the clinical laboratory.
