Reagents, Microbiology

Definition : Reagents used in biochemical assays for laboratory (in vitro) cultivation and identification of microorganisms; some reagents are used to determine the susceptibility of microorganisms to antimicrobial agents. Microbiology reagents include culture media, stains, buffers, antibiotics, calibrators, controls, and standards. Most tests are based on biochemical identification (e.g., agglutination procedures, with detection either directly or using fluorescent techniques).
