Definition : Hematology reagents used in automated analyzers to count the number of red blood cells (RBCs or erythrocytes), white blood cells (WBCs or leucocytes), and platelets per unit volume in a sample of venous blood. Most reagents for automated complete blood cell counts are intended for use in a particular model of hematology analyzer; usually these analyzers can calculate the erythrocyte indexes ( mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration).
