Dental Materials, Impression, Agar
Definition : Dental impression materials with elastic and thermoplastic properties, whose main component is reversible agar hydrocolloid, designed to make an accurate negative reproduction of a given area of the oral cavity. These dental impression materials consist of agar, water, chemicals (e.g., borax, potassium sulfate) and fillers that increase their strength and stiffness. Agar dental impression materials are usually supplied in plastic tubes or in plastic or glass cartridges that fit a syringe. These dental impression materials are not frequently used in modern dental practices, although are still used for complex impressions in advanced restorative work. They are often used in dental laboratories to duplicate models because they can be reused many times.
