Amniotomes

Definition : Surgical instruments designed for cutting or rupturing the membrane containing the fetus (i.e., the fetal membrane or amnion). These manual, handheld instruments typically have a protected sharp point and a handle with a mechanism for operating the point. Other surgical instruments (e.g., dedicated perforators, trocars, forceps) are also used for amniotic membrane rupture.
