Definition : Large, stand-alone waste compactors designed to reduce the volume of solid waste material by mechanical compression. These units usually consist of a large container with mechanisms that compress the waste material (e.g., metals, plastic), reducing its volume several times; the compactors are available in a variety of sizes and configurations. Stand-alone waste compactors are used in healthcare facilities for facilitating the manipulation of large quantities of waste material, resulting inless storage room being required before waste material is sent to the final disposal locations.

Marathon Equipment Co
Marathon Equipment Company, known throughout the world as a leading manufacturer of on-site waste compaction and recycling systems, began one evening in early 1966 as Lawson Acton, refuse hauling contractor, and Jack Wright, a manufacturer of car washes, were talking over the back fence. Acton wasn't happy with the stationary compactors of the day because they were built like "battleships", with complicated electrical and hydraulic systems. Only the "wealthy few" could afford them, which automatically left out retailers, shopping malls and smaller industrial companies.
Precision Machinery Systems Inc
Precision Machinery Systems, Inc. was founded in 1994. The product lines manufactured by Precision have a very long history and respected reputation in the industry. Both the AUTO-PAK and INTERNATIONAL DYNETICS trash compactor product lines originated in the late sixties, while the TORONITA densifier product line was developed in early 1990 when recycling became an important issue.
