Sinks, Autopsy/Dissection

Definition : Sinks designed to collect and drain fluids discharged from a cadaver during autopsy and/or dissection procedures; they are usually configured to permit the direct collection of the fluids from dissection and autopsy tables without additional manipulation of the bodies. These sinks typically consist of a metallic structure with one or more stainless steel bowls with a seamless and without crevices construction including several faucets, cold and hot water supply, a vacuum aspirator, soap dispensers, and appropriate tubing for drainage. The sinks may also include sponge bowls to rinse and drain organs and/or instruments, exhaust ducts for connection to the building ventilation system, drawers for instruments and supplies, and electrical receptacles. Autopsy/dissection sinks are available in stand alone and wall-mounted configurations.
