Tubes, Colon

Definition : Tubes designed to access the colon through the rectum for examination, treatment, or other purposes. These devices typically consist of a single-lumen rubber or plastic (e.g., silicon) tube of 14 to 20 French diameter or larger, about 40 cm (15 inches) long, that is inserted through the anus and rectum and then into the colon. Colon tubes are used mainly for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes, including enema delivery; dedicated colon tubes intended for antegrade colon irrigation (e.g., cecostomy tubes) are also available.
