Resuscitators, Cardiopulmonary

Definition : Resuscitators that combine in units the capabilities to restore the cardiac function and provide ventilation to a patient who is apneic or exhibits inadequate respiration and is simultaneously under cardiac arrest. These resuscitators apply mechanical compression cyclically to the cavity between the sternum and the vertebral column, producing a compression of the sternum up to five centimeters (two inches), forcing the heart to eject blood; pulmonary resuscitation is performed by using an integral pneumatic pulmonary resuscitator, typically applying time-cycled ventilation. Cardiopulmonary resuscitators are used as a substitute of manual external cardiac compression to prevent fatigue of emergency personnel and to provide a better consistency in the applied force and rate of compression to ventilation ratio of 5:1. These resuscitators may be used during emergencies involving cardiopulmonary arrest if an oxygen cylinder or an oxygen-piped wall outlet is present; they can also be used during patient transportation in ambulances.

Bay Medical

Bay Medical was founded in 1981 by two healthcare professionals with over 50 years of combined experience in anesthesiology and respiratory therapy. They recognized the need for a more cost-effective way for medical professionals to access and purchase quality airway products. So rather than using a sales force, the Bay Medical catalog was developed -- the first mail-order publication to bring airway management products directly to professionals like you who use them daily.
