Procedure Kit/Trays, Emergency, Tension Pneumothorax

Definition : Prepackaged collections of the necessary devices and supplies (i.e., either custom or standard kits) used for emergency treatment of patients suffering tension pneumothorax. Items in these kits usually include devices such as syringes, forceps, vents, scalpels, occlusion plugs, needles, trocars, and tubing sets. They also include supplies (e.g., drapes, gauze, anesthetics) appropriate for the emergency situation that they are intended to treat. The kits are frequently supplied in supporting trays (i.e., procedure trays) consisting of a flat-bottomed receptacle with a border around the periphery which supports all the instruments and supplies needed for the procedure. The trays are usually covered by a sterile wrap and may be included in a solid bag appropriate for transportation. Pneumothorax emergency procedure kits and trays are mainly intended for use in the field and in emergency rooms after spontaneous or traumatic tension pneumothorax.
