Orthoses, Spine, Cervicothoracic-Lumbosacral

Definition : Spine orthoses designed for external modification of the structural and/or functional characteristics of the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral segments of the spine, providing immobilization (i.e., motion control) and support to the structure. Cervicothoracic-lumbosacral spine orthoses usually consist of rigid metallic (e.g., stainless steel) and soft material (e.g., leather) orthoses that can provide immobilization of the cervicothoracic and lumbosacral segments of the spine; they are intended mainly to provide motion control or complete immobilization of the spine.
