Dressings, Nonimpregnated, Synthetic, Hydrocolloid

Definition : Synthetic dressings made of polymers that combine hydrophilic absorptive ingredients such as carboxymethylcellulose, pectin, and an adhesive elastomer (e.g., gelatin). These dressings are self-adhesive; they become a hydrophilic occlusive gel when they come into contact with wet wounds. Hydrocolloid dressings are available in wafer, powder, or paste forms; they are used in the management of moderately exudative and/or necrotic wounds.
