Disinfectors, Pasteurization

Definition : Disinfectors designed to kill or inactivate many microorganisms from instruments, containers, and other clinical utensils by immersion in hot water, automatically or semiautomatically. These disinfectors are typically devices with a tank resembling a hot water bath that reaches temperatures of less than 100 degrees Celsius (C) (212 degrees Fahrenheit [F]); they frequently apply temperatures in the range of 70 to 75 degrees C (158 to 167 degrees F) for 20 minutes. Temperature and time controls are usually included. Pasteurization disinfectors are used to disinfect devices when complete sterilization is not needed or justified.
