Definition : Hot compresses or packs containing gels that retain hot temperature for a long period of time. These devices typically consist of compact plastic or fabric bags containing pliable silica gels that can retain heat for a long time and are capable of conforming to the contour of the body; they are typically warmed by placing in hot water or microwave oven. Gel hot compresses/packs are intended to apply heat therapy to a specific body surface; they are mainly used to improve blood circulation and reduce pain, muscle spasms and joint stiffness.
